Electrolysis PERMANENT Hair Removal (or Needle Epilation)

Electrolysis vs Laser Hair Removal

The Difference Between Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis :

Electrolysis Hair Removal (Electrology or Needle Epilation)

Do you know that PERMANENT Hair Removal method do exist & it has been around in the market over century (since 1875)?

FDA have recognised electrolysis as the only PERMANENT method of hair removal. Electrolysis has proved scientifically & medically with real evidences of over century since 1875 to PERMANENTLY remove all kinds of hairs, hairs of all colours & hairs over every tattoo from all skin colours. It's the only method that can permanently remove all & every unwanted hairs.

Why Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal solution?

Laser, Diode & IPL can only RETARD hair growth and remove majority of dense, coarse, thick and dark hair, but not all. Cells that contain DARK colours such as hairs are destroyed, but hair follicles & hair stem cells that lack colour may remain intact. Thus hairs may eventually grow back some years later after a prolonged dormancy, even after successful LHR course.

Electrolysis can permanently remove hair when all stem cells within follicle & the whole follicle are completely destroyed. If their parts are missed, hairs still can grow back. Also not all hairs are growing out of your skin (many are still underneath & invisible) when you are being treated.

What is electrolysis hair removal? How it gets done?

A disposable, sterile needle, the same diameter to your hair is being inserted along each hair follicle, then hair, the follicle and hair stem cells will be destroyed by either radio wave (in other words RF, HF, flash or thermolysis) or the chemical reaction induced by direct current (in other words, DC or galvanic) being generated along the needle, or both. Nothing is injected. There are no chemicals injected. Only the individual hair follicle is affected.

[Please note the smaller diameter of a needle the hotter, more concentrated energy in the smaller the higher heated affected spot, skin may heal slower; it might miss to destroy outter part of a follicle.

The bigger diameter of a needle, the better heat distribution throughout the follicles; skin heal faster. Also, it's less painful for clients.]

The thermolysis sends a radio wave from the tip of the needle causing cells to vibrate & heat up. Vibration creates friction; & friction produces heat. Thermolysis only destroys cells & tissue locating adjacent to the tip of the needle where energy has been released. The effect is fixed in position.

The galvanic rearranges water and salt present in the body into sodium hydroxide (lye). Lye is highly soluble in the presence of body's moisture. This liquid alkaline can flow and reach the area where it is unreached by Thermolysis energy.

When using blend utilising both thermolysis & galvanic, the basicity of lye dissolves & makes the hair follicle tissues porous; thermolysis heats up & disseminates lye through agitation which render the lye solution to penetrate greater area for a greater destruction of the hair.

Which modality is the best: Blend, Galvanic or Thermolysis?
This depends on the hair being treated.
- - Blend is more effective for deeper, coarser hairs. Blend also should be used to treat curved or distorted follicles that have been abused by often plucking
- - Insulated needles should be used when treating shallow hairs. The manufacturers recommended that insulated needles should not be used with Blend or Galvanic in which galvanic/DC is being used, thus only Thermolysis is suitable to be used with this type of needles.

Electrolysis can remove hair of all growth cycle permanently.

Before booking your very 1st appointment :

Electrolysis treatments aren't for everyone.
-- Body dysmorphic disorder
-- People with the following health conditions must avoid Electrolysis treatments: active skin disease, implanted Pacemakers, lack of skin/temperature sensation, keloid/hypertrophic scarring, history of skin cancer, during hormonal therapy or infectious diseases.
-- A certificate from your doctor is required before commencing Electrolysis treatment when you have suffered from at least one of the following health conditions: diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy, moles in area to be treated, metal implants in body (eg birth control IUD, metal staples in the chest, screws, pins or plates to repair broken bones or etc.), haemophilia, pregnancy, trying to conceive, during breastfeeding, on blood thinning medications or recovering from a recent operation (less than 6 months).
-- A certificate from your doctor is required before I can remove hair from your moles or pigment-producing skin cells to prove that you have had those areas checked and they are not cancerous. The needle used for removing hair from moles or pigment-producing areas, such as red and brown spots as for examples, should NOT be used elsewhere for normal skin areas to prevent cross contamination/metastasis.
-- Individuals with a known history of frequent Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1 or 2 lesions should begin prophylaxis prior to treatment as prescribed by their physician. Clients are advised to take the antiviral medications (examples: acyclovir or valacyclovir) at least one day before and continue after each treatment session strictly as directed until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. If you stop taking medication too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated or may become more tolerant and difficult to treat.
-- Tattoos must be at least 6 months old before the electrolysis treatment can begin on such area.
-- Stop using topical products containing, such as benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, AHA, alcohols, perfume, witch hazel, astringents, vitamin A and its derivatives, such as retinoids (like over-the-counter retinol and prescribed stronger tretinoin [Retin A], Tazorac, or etc.) for at least 1 week before and after electrolysis treatment.

Discontinue isotretinoin (Accutane) for at least 6 months prior to electrolysis.

-- Electrolysis treatments aren't for everyone. Click here for list of contraindications.

*** Please inform us of any changes of your health condition and medications when booking and before each treatment session. ***

What you need to know & expect?

-- We provide services to all genders, including LGBTIQA+.
-- Almost all hair from head to toes, excluding inner ears and nasal hair (because these areas are not skin but mucous membrane) can be treated by Electrolysis.

-- Providing your regular commitments, you won't see much change (or significantly less hair) until after 6 months of regular electrolysis treatments for facial hair, and

after 2nd clearances for body hair (and each clearance is at lest 4-6 months apart).

The number of clearance is different from session number.
The number of sessions refer to the number of times u visiting therapist.

Each clearance refers to each time u have had ALL hairs in certain area removed/treated.

In the beginning, sessions are longer in duration and more frequent. Over time, treatments will shrink in duration and be spaced further and further apart until all hair is gone forever. Overall time to clear all hair in a certain area is around 1 ½ - 2 yrs on average, but a client must spend regular commitments.

A client should be able to observe the mentioned results with the condition that they have not waxed or plucked their hair for at least past 6 months before their very 1st electrolysis treatment, otherwise it may take a bit longer or few more sessions than average to have all unwanted hair permanently removed.

If a client has had laser/diode/IPL hair removal prior to electrolysis, those light/optical therapies can retard hair growth upto many yrs. Says 4-6 yrs after your last laser treatment you may still see regrown hair retarded by laser.

Before coming for each appointment :

1. Your hair must be long enough (minimum 3 mm or longer) to be able to grab by the tweezers after the hair being released by electrolysis. So, please do not wax/tweeze/thread/pluck and stop tweezing/waxing/threading/plucking. No shaving neither for at least a few days or longer before your appointment. If hair is too short, we cannot treat.
2. To increase the effectiveness, please drink plenty of water at least during 4 hrs before coming to each electrolysis session. (For healthy adults, adequate daily fluid intake is around 2 litres.) Why:
Thermolysis vibrates fluid molecules. This creates frictions that generate heat destroying hair follicles.
Galvanic rearranges water and ... present in your hair follicle...
If you dehydrate and your skin and hair follicles are too dry, settings need to be increased and it can be more painful.
3. If u hv low pain tolerance, pls don't consume any coffee, caffeine, alcohol &/or energy drinks for at least 4 hrs or longer before coming to each appointment.
4. Please also wear clean & loose clothing for area u wish to b treated. Cotton & linen are more preferred. Avoid chafing fabrics.
5. Please have such skin area you wish to be treated clean & free from moisturiser, make-up, deodorant, perfume & etc. before start each session and at least 48 hrs after the treatment.
6. Avoid electrolysis treatments when your skin is still inflamed, irritated or sensitive, such as from recently sun exposure, physical exfoliation, chemical peeling, needling, high frequency/RF treatments, light/optical/laser/diode/IPL treatments and etc.
7. No sun burn or tanning in the area u wish to b treated.
8. Pls don't wear any metal such as jewelry during electrolysis treatment.
9. Electrolysis treatments aren't for everyone. Click here for list of contraindications.

Scars develop when both outermost layers (aka epidermis) & deeper layers are injured.
No visible scars when only one of the two affected.

Depending on therapist's skill, electrolysis should destroy hair follicles locating in deeper layers of skin, but not epidermis.

How do you feel during the treatment session?

Most people feel a mild stinging sensation & others describe it as a hot pinch beneath the skin when energy is being released. This is bearable for many, but painful for few. It depends because different people sense and tolerate pain differently.

Pain Management

Some clients take pain medication before a treatment, while others have been known to doze. Being relaxed before a session helps a great deal. Avoiding caffeine, energy drink and sugar prior to your treatment helps as well. For extremely sensitive clients, topical anaesthetic or numbing cream can be bought and applied before starting the session.
You can also ask the electrologist to lower the setting during the session.
Lower setting works just as well but it takes longer. The electrologist will not be able to remove so many hairs in the session compared with tolerating more pain, but it still achieves the same result. Always be honest about you pain threshold.

How your skin should temporarily look after electrolysis treatment?

Face & Front neck: red & raised/swollen follicles like mossie bites for few hrs but should not scab in many cases. Also see photos posted by a customer called Hope_hair on Feb 2019 (over-treated) and Mar 2019 (normally healed, treated by renowned Josefa M. Reina)=> https://hairtell.com/forum/t/question-about-chin-hair-and-scarring-post-electrolysis/52014/29
Some (not everyone) may have pin-point scabbing 48 hrs after facial electrolysis =>  https://hairtell.com/forum/t/scabbing-electrolysis/52912

Other parts of body will look like mossie bites for few hrs. Then pinpoint scabs will appear 48 hrs after the treatment. Scabs should disappear within a month. Some individuals may have temporarily hyperpigmentation. These hyperpigments are temporary & they will fade over time.

CARE AFTER Electrolysis Hair Removal
  1. Skin may be susceptible to irritation or infection for around 48-72 hours after any Electrolysis treatments until the open follicles superficially seal. You can wipe the area with povidone iodine (Betadine), if needed.
  2. Following your treatment, do not touch or scratch the area treated! Microorganisms are on everything and everywhere. By touching your treated area may cause infection.
  3. You can routinely take shower, rinse and wash treated area with mild soap (whose pH is neutral) & cold or lukewarm water, but not too warm/hot water.
  4. No scrubbing, no exfoliation, no loofah, & no chemical peeling for at least 4 weeks after each treatment.
  5. Do not wear make-up over the treated area for at least 48 hours.
If being bare skin for at least 48 hours after the procedure isn't possible, mineral or physical sunscreens (especially those containing zinc oxide as active ingredient) can be used as concealers. This type of sunscreens is better than those containing other chemicals or organic compounds. The reason is that mineral sunscreens act similarly to aluminum foil physically reflecting sunlight, blocking it from entering into our skin, whereas other sunscreens allow light to absorb/enter/penetrate into our skin. Additionally, zinc is anti-inflammatory & anti-microbial.
(Please note some people can develop irritation or allergy to zinc or other chemicals used in skincare products, patch test is highly recommended for first time users.)
  6. Avoid perfume or alcohol-based products. They will dry out & irritate your skin, and delay healing. You can wipe the area with aloe vera, hydrogel, silicon gel, witch hazel and/or Betadine, if needed. Ensure they don't contain alcohols.
Many physicians and dermatologists don't recommend the routine use of steroids and antibiotics.
  7. Avoid exercises & excessive sweating (also no sauna) for at least 48 hrs after each treatment. Sweat can cause microorganisms to enter into the open follicles and cause infection. Exercise before your electrolysis appointment instead of afterward.
  8. Avoid the sun for at least the next 7 days to avoid the formation of brown/red pigment spots. Your skin defends against UV rays by producing pigment, which will deflect some of the harmful rays. If your skin is injured or traumatised it can over-produce pigment in those areas. This can result in hyper-pigmentation. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN AT ALL TIME.
  9. Do not bath and do not swim for at least the first 48 hours following treatment to avoid exposure to chemicals, pathogens & etc.
  10. If small scabs appear, do not scratch them away. This can cause scarring. Allow them to fall off naturally. This is nature's way of skin healing. Keeping the area moisturised will often curtail the formation of scabs. Try to minimise heat or friction on the treated areas.
  11. Do not wear chafing fabrics for at least 4 weeks after the treatment. Tight & chafing clothing may scratch scabs, create frictions & heat the treated skin that still inflame causing prolonged healing process. This can cause scarring.
  12. If u are prevented from coming in as soon as u would like for your next session, DO NOT TWEEZE, WAX, THREAD or any other methods that pull hair out by the root! The offending hair can be clipped off with small scissors, shaved or bleached. Do not shave while skin still inflame.
  13. Once electrolysis treatments have begun, any other hair removal methods that affect hairs underneath the skin must be discontinued because these methods can stimulate your hair growth and can make it become bigger & stronger and electrolysis treatments would become useless.

What are good electrolysis hair removal treatments should look like =>

Examples of bad treatments =>

One time of electrolysis over-treatment can cause scarring. How do you know that your are overtreated? It is obvious and noticeable. For examples, see photos posted by "pinksun" via forum: https://hairtell.com/forum/t/electrolysis-disaster-not-for-the-faint-hearted/54437 and Erin_Nicole's post via https://hairtell.com/forum/t/electrolysis-nightmare-pls-help/54738

Multiple times of electrolysis under-treatments can also cause permanent scars because your therapist doesn't have the right skills and/or cannot see your hair because no proper visual aids and/or lighting, thus cannot remove your hair permanently within one attempt and have to treat the same follicles over and over.

///////////////////////////////////////////

Q: Total hours needed to have all my hair removed?

A: That varies & depends on many factors such as:
-- Amount of hair among individuals varies. Some are hairy than others.

-- Settings to be used which depends on:
1. Skills of therapist - Ensure your therapist has got proper skills, uses sufficient lighting and visual aids.
2. Your pain threshold which is different from others
3. Different parts of your body can feel differently. Certain areas are more sensitive than others.
4. Whether your skin is hydrated during the treatment? So, please drink adequate amount of water before u come for each appointment. (We provide free drinking water & tea. Also, toilet facilities are unisex, available & disinfected after each individual client.)

One follicle takes around 2 seconds MORE or LESS depending on the settings, your pain threshold and hydrated vs dehydrated skin.

The higher your pain tolerance, the higher the settings the faster treatment per follicle and more hair get treated.

If your skin is well hydrated, the faster treatment per follicle and more hair follicles get treated. This is because both thermolysis & galvanic processes require water/moisture/fluid to destroy hair follicles.

On average for facial hair, it takes upto around 6 months with regular appointments before you start to notice a significant reduction in hair growth.

For hair of other body area, you will start to notice a significant reduction in hair growth after second clearance, provided that each clearance are at least 6 months apart.

In the beginning, sessions are longer in duration and more frequent. Over time, treatments will shrink in duration and be spaced further and further apart until all hair is gone forever.

With your regular commitment, majority of all unwanted hair should be permanently gone within 1 1/2 - 2 yrs.

Why it takes 1 1/2 - 2 yrs? This is dictated by the nature of your hair growth cycle which is influenced by factors such as hormones, pregnancy, medications, trauma and etc.
