Burn by Laser or IPL & Post Treatments

Topic: Over-treated by any light therapies - Prevention & How to look after yourself when you are over-treated?

Prevention:
For any laser, Diode or IPL hair removal, over-treated signs of blistering &/or burning will not appear straight after you are hit by the light beam, but few minutes or even few hours after that. This is the reason why patch tests must be performed for different areas at least few days prior to the treatment.

So how do you know that you are over-treated?
When light beam hitting your skin, you will feel like a hot rubber-band snap, without any lingering pain or heat. Your skin should cool down almost immediately. If it feels extremely hot and is not cooling down you MUST alert your therapist immediately. The heat & pain should go away almost immediately as soon as the pulse stopped & moved away from that treated spot.
Any lingering pain or burning sensation can result in blisters and/or burn.

Compared to the situation when you have extended sun exposure when you go to the beach, you will only feel lingering heat but you won't see any skin reactions yet. Then within a day or two after that skin reaction either tanning, blistering, peeling or sun burn will start to appear. This is similar to burn caused by light therapy such as Laser, diode, IPL or LED

What to do if over-treated by LHR & other light therapy?

** IF YOU THINK YOU ARE SERIOUSLY BURNT, GO TO EMERGENCY IMMEDIATELY. THEY SHOULD BE OPEN 24/7 ***
Otherwise read below.

Ask your therapist to COLD compress you IMMEDIATELY for at least 20 minutes
(Be aware that ICE compression can cause freeze burn. Thus, if iced pack is used ensure to keep removing it from the same skin area every few minutes and/or wrapped the iced pack with disposable kitchen paper towel such that it does not have direct contact with your skin.)

To minimise scaring, skin must be kept moist while skin is healing. So, the following topical gel, cream &/or ointment are recommended as for examples:

-- Aloe Vera gel (non-alcohol)
Alcohol irritates intact skin & it burn non-intact skin.

such as:
Of all aloe gels available in Australia, only gels from Aloevera Australia r genuine, thus they hv wound healing property.

-- Silicone gel or sheet

-- Hydrocolloid vs Hydrogel: hydrogel does not dissolve in water, whereas hydrocolloid forms a gel when mixing with water
When should you not use hydrogel dressing? Hydrogels cannot absorb large amounts of fluid and therefore are not suitable for very wet wounds which could become macerated and infected.
Hydrocolloid dressings are recommended for wounds with some exudate, but should not be used for dry wound, because it is designed for absorption of wound exudates. Since hydrocolloid bandages maintain a moist and enclosed environment, they're not appropriate for use on infected areas. Hydrocolloid dressings are designed to be worn for up to a week. Infrequent dressing changes are less disruptive to wound healing.

For examples: https://trproplus.com/product/tr-pro-10g/, Solosite Wound Gel, 3M Solugel, Flamigel and etc.

-- For customers who developed irritation from aloe gel, please use hydro gel + silicone sheet, instead. Apply thin layer of hydrogel and cover it with super clean reusable silicone sheet from chemist. See images below for examples:

U can cut bigger silicone sheet to fit your purpose.

-- Burnaid Burn Gel

-- Sudocrem (zinc oxide)

-- Medi Quattro

Please note bufexamac in Medi Quattro can cause allergic reactions in some individuals and has been banned in many countries => https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bufexamac?fbclid=IwAR0KtqeoeIjoLT_OjH-4kq27XSZmX1PDCV4rSV7H5ceEqlfdhtW53CuWJdQ

Topic: Scabs after laser

If scabs appear, do not scratch them away. This can cause scarring. Allow them to fall off naturally. SCABBING IS NATURE'S WAY OF SKIN HEALING. Keeping the area moisturised will often curtail the formation of scabs.
Avoid any heat or frictions over the treated areas. For examples, avoid wearing chafing fabrics or tight clothing. Tight & chafing clothing may scratch scabs, create frictions & heat over the skin that still inflame causing prolonged healing process. Wear loose breathable natural fabrics such as cotton or linen.

Table: Other Risks After Laser/IPL Hair Removal Treatments

erythema ab igne vs reticular erythema: Erythema ab igne is a type of reticular erythema.

Scars develop when both outermost layers (aka epidermis) + deeper layers are damaged.

No visible scars when only one of the two affected.

Non healing wounds can lead to scars which take many months to form and become noticeable. See scholar articles under wound healing topic.

Age Restrictions for Laser & Electrolysis Hair Removal

There is no age restriction for laser & electrolysis hair removal but the client must has the maturity to demonstrate that he/she understand the treatment process, what is expected of the procedure, preparation before each treatment session & aftercare.

The benefits & risks of laser & electrolysis hair removal are the same for younger people as they are for adults.

The main decision to do laser or electrolysis hair removal needs to come from the young clients themselves, not their parents or guardians. This must be something the young clients want for themselves and not because their parents want them to have it done.

However, for a client under the age of 18 years old, the presence of a legal guardian on the first consultation and written consent from a legal guardian are required. We will provide our form.

Because young clients still have to go through puberty & there are hormones that can affect hair growth, there is a super high possibility that there can be excessive hair growth even after successful hair removal. This means young clients who are still growing will require more sessions than the fully-grown adults on average.

Waxing, daily plucking & other epilation methods that pull/tear the hair out from skin should be avoided cause these temporary hair removal methods can increase the size of your hair, can cause ingrown hair, can irritate skin & etc.

Scarred skin of a daily plucker => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9--CRwOxb74&fbclid=IwAR1bN7Ej9w9QRDrqbRItqBd-R3LFWWBhOK59Z5TCurv0P97UBjFrLUZFBXw

///////////// Why age is important to Laser (or IPL) result? /////////////

It's recommended that the client should have completely gone through puberty before commencing laser hair removal, so that it allows enough time for full pattern of hair growth to be completely developed. That is around mid 20's for female and mid 30's for male.

Why wait? Remember laser works efficaciously when hair is dark, dense, coarse and thick.

However, when a child wants to have treatments done earlier before turning puberty due to psychological stress from the hair, pilonidal cyst or sinus, ingrown hair, pseudofolliculitis barbae, sores and etc, they need to understand that results might not be long term and require more treatments sessions.

About Us

I'm Nora.

-- About me:
I received Certificates of Laser Safety, Laser Hair Removal, IPL Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation from Fleming Laser, Australia in Apr 2017. I also completed Diploma of Nursing, Australia in 2022.

I have hand-on experiences with various diode, IPL & Laser machines, such as Fotona (various models), Candela GentleMax Pro (755 and 1064 nm), Gentlelase 755nm, GentleYag 1064nm, Arion Alexandrite Scanner, Asclepion Mediostar, Soprano, 755nm Alexandrite, 810nm Diode and 1064nm Nd:YAG both static pulses and In-Motion (or dynamic pulses) technology with or without the use of conductive gel and etc.

I have completed my Electrology (both Hair Removal & telangiectasia) training also with TrudyFleming. Late Michael Bono and many other electrologists also mentored me when I started this career in late 2016.

I also have hand-on experiences with various electrolysis machines, such as Dectro Apilus xCell, Senior 3G, Clareblend Ultrablend 8701, Hinkel Classic, Hinkel UC-2, Instantron Elite Spectrum K & Sterex. I have experienced using various types and brands of electrolysis needles, such as, naked stainless steel, insulated and gold plated from Ballet, Elite Probes, Laurier, Pro-Tec, Sterex & Velona. I want to be able to work as fast as Josefa M. REINA with minimum clients' pain, downtime & skin reactions. That're my goal, dedication & passion. So I'm flexible and inquisitive. Your advice is welcome.

When I turned puberty I had suffered with excessive hair problem in my lower legs. It had caused me depression and I had lost my self-esteem & confidence to go out and do things. I used to wax & pluck it. Not only the hair problem got worse cause hair became coarser & thicker, but also it leaded to ingrown hair problem & skin irritation. During 1998-1999 when I was about 18 yrs old, I had all & every single hair removed from my lower legs via Electrolysis and until now there isn't any hair coming back. Electrolysis helped me regain my self-esteem. It also inspired me to strive to become one of the best electrologists and I have a strong passion to help others who suffer the same problem because I feel them since I was once in the similar situation.

I always seek to improve my skill & technique & never stop learning. I'm open-minded & flexible to bring what best to my clients.

I attended online course in Anti-Aging & Integrative Medicine, Dhurakij Pundit University, Thailand taught by various top medical doctors from Thailand & around the world. Since electrology & light therapies, such as laser, can permanently remove hair only cosmetically, but the root cause is still there and modern medicine often overlooks the root causes, but can only manage disease symptoms. Most often, modern medicine focuses mainly on disease managements, but omits disease prevention. Moreover, modern/conventional medicine has become segregated and disintegrative, but I strongly believe medicine should apply integrative, holistic approach to treat the person as a whole, not segregated into separate body systems. This course aims to close these gaps by identifying & treating root causes in integrative & holistic manners. I'm hoping once I have completed this course I would be able to help guide my clients to find ways to cure/remove the root causes within my scope of a beauty therapist or refer them to the right MDs even before they start to show clinical signs of disease, at which point it is too little too late (disease-prevention approach vs disease-treatment/management approach).

I'm quite efficient & fast, much faster than my Youtube video. Thus, it should be cheaper than many other service providers.

Why our Laser Hair Removal services are better?

  • All of our new clients receive initial consultation & patch tests for all different areas you wish to have LHR.

  • Ever since I started offering LHR services I have never treated anyone more than 6 sessions for their 2-yr initial course provided that clients are good candidates for laser that their original hairs were starting with dark, dense, coarse and thick hair with light skin colors. Majority of my clients achieved more than 80-95% permanent hair reduction within only 4th session, but some of my clients may require upto 6th session in total.

  • I honestly have asked clients not to resume any LHR further if they have not received any further reductions from LHR treatments either because their hair colour, density and diameter are no longer good candidates for LHR, or their hair doesn't fall out within a week or two post treatment.

Better Results with Fewer Treatments & Least Total Costs

Your ultimate final result in the years to come depends on how effective therapists have delivered your results from the very first and every LHR session you have had. After treatment series, your final result of greater permanent hair reduction increases when the moral therapists use proper settings. If lower energy settings are kept applying on you, not only you get less ultimate final result, but you may end up with more hair that being stimulated by low energy levels of light exposure.

Here we find the proper laser settings for individual clients from the very start because we are all different & we provide patch testing for different areas so to help our clients achieve the optimal results within the minimum time period.

Provided that they are good candidates for LHR, our clients see significant change since their first session even if more sessions are required to meet satisfaction. Even if laser (diode & IPL) tends to have unpredictable results among different individuals, up to around 6-8 treatments within 1 ½ – 2 yrs are typically required initially to achieve maximum hair reduction, and it is believed that further treatments can induce hair growth.

We highly recommend that your initial 1st - 2nd sessions are between 6 to 8 weeks apart. Then the subsequent 3rd - 6th sessions are between 6 weeks - 6 months apart.Following these guidelines should result in the greatest reduction of hair.

Our machine has been approved by Australian TGAUSA FDA, European EMA and also by other regulatory bodies around the world as the medical laser device indicated for long term or permanent hair reduction/removal for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI). Click the links for verification.

What makes our machine standing out from the rest?
This laser machine is designed to effectively treat not only dark, dense, thick, & coarse hair, but it is more efficacious for difficult to treat residual, fine & light hair after multiple LHR sessions that other machines struggle with.

Comparison Table of Different Light-Based Machines with Our Machine

The table below comparing our machine Duetto MT EVO by Quanta System with Candel Gentle Series, Lumenis Lightsheer Duet, Infinity, & Splendor X, Alma Soprano Ice, Primelase Excellence, and Elysion:

With a skilled therapist and low power machine, clients will observe good results for the first few treatment sessions and less on subsequent treatment sessions. Thereafter, the results will plateau as it is beyond the machine's capacity to be able to provide any further reductions.

As clients progress with subsequent LHR treatment sessions, their hair becomes finer and lighter and locates shallower, requiring shorter pulse widths and concentrated beams of higher fluence (energy) than does initial hair which is denser, thicker, coarser & darker. In order to achieve beyond 80% long-term/permanent hair reduction, ensure the power output of a LHR machine is higher than 2000 watts to ensure the machine can perform this.

Why our Electrolysis services?

  • All new clients receive initial consultation to see how your skin react after session (please allow 2-7 days after post treatment). However, if you have had electrolysis treatments from somewhere else previously, you can continue on the day since you know how your skin normally heals post-session.

  • We are flexible with all the modalities: Blend, Fast blend, Galvanic, Thermolysis & Flash thermolysis

  • Every single unwanted hair from head to toes, hair of every colour and every skin colour can be permanently removed. All unwanted hair can also be removed where tattooed.

  • BODY hairs should be permanently removed within 4 clearances (not sessions), provided that each clearance are at least 3-4 months apart.

  • For FACIAL hairs, it's probably require more than 4. Clearance of every single FACIAL hairs per session should be avoided due to higher risk of pitted scarring.

[Clearance means removing of all the hairs present in the area at the time of that treatment session. Session means appointment session.]

  • You should never feel being plucked during the treatment.

  • We offer marathon sessions. (For non-facial hair, you can book long sessions for consecutive days. There is no limits or no restrictions on hours.)

  • On-site accommodation and Airport pickup & drop-off services are available at extra costs and are subject to availability, terms and conditions.
